That is not funny.

  • I hate to say this but the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is over-reacting to Dolphy's newest comedy flick, Fr. Jejemon.

They particularly focused on two scenes where Fr. Jejemon drops a host between the cleavage of a catholic faithful?

What is wrong with the scene?

1.) that Fr. Jejemon lost the host to a faithful's cleavage?
2.) that Fr. Jejemon looked at the host that fell on a faithful's cleavage?
3.) that Fr. Jejemon looked at the faithful's cleavage?
4.) that Fr. Jejemon allowed a faithful, whose cleavage was exposed, to take the holy communion?

Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo argues that 'they are negative, the movie does not give a good reflection on the priesthood.”

So in the eyes of Bishop Lagdameo, the entire movie is flawed.

Dear Bishops, the freaking Fr. Jejemon movie is a COMEDY flick. And with Dolphy starring in it, it can only be slapstick comedy, a type of comedy that 'exceed the boundaries of common sense.' What do you expect from King of Comedy?

The more worrying theme of the CBCP's reaction is this --- there is a limit to commentary on them and the Church. Even by the Catholic faithful. And that is not funny.

    Dignity for our troops

  • It is about time! The increase of combat pay for our troops from around US$5.7 (P260) to around US$11 (P500) is one of the best thing that PNoy did since taking office.

It was so simple but had lasting effect in the morale of the soldiers. Yeah, many of them are corrupt. Many of them are abusive. But those are directly related to several factors, and one of them is compensation. Discipline is another matter, but that is for another article.
Are you wearing a smirk because the soldier got a pay increase while you did not? Well, boohoo! They deserve every pay increase we can give them. Do not forget that lay their lives everyday. So any increase going their way is well worth it.

According to the two Senate committees (finance and national defense) the combat pay was last increased 22 years ago through Executive Order No.1 017 issued on March 22, 1985.

Good gracious! How can so many presidents, generals, legislators be so insensitive to the plight of our troops.

With that in mind, we (as a nation) should collectively ask the PNoy and Congress to improve the pay scale of the security and law enforcement agencies of the country.

With better compensation, we are able to secure the services of good people who generally would avoid military service because of low pay. We must remember that ours is a purely voluntary military service with a sole exception during time of war.

There are at least 27 countries that exercises mandatory military service for all males (some even females). IN the case of Israel, all citizens are conscripted at age 18 or the conclusion of 12th Grade. Typically, men are required to serve for 3 years while the ladies for less than 2 years.

Closer to home, in South Korea, mandatory military service lasts for about 18 to 21 months.

The next step, I hazard to say, it to improve discipline. But do start with the officers, please Mr. President.

Yes, Another blog. Just like there is another account on Facebook. Or another email gmail or yahoo account.

Talk Back seeks to add another voice to the millions out here. The difference is the point of view. It is mine. It is yours. It is ours.

Hopes are up that Talk Back is witty and sarcastic. It should be sharp and tough on things that people do. The only bias it has are ours. People consider me libertarian, but heck, I am just a regular kid like you.

    Hail to the Azkhals!

  • The gods of Philippine football rose to the occasion. They barged into the semi finals of the Suzuki Cup via the vaunted Vietnamese booters.

Sadly, they fell prey to the apathy of the Republic that they wanted to honor. The PH Azkhals' run ended yesterday, losing to the superb Indonesian team 1-0.

Still, these Pinoy youngbloods stood tall in a foreign stadium packed with 70,000 of their opponent's infantrymen. Despite the noise, the collective hate and the fierce attacks, only Uruguay-born striker Christian Gonzales' thunderbolts penetrated Neil Etheridge's defense.

I must admit that I was heartbroken. No losing basketball game could have made me feel so proud. Come to think of it, I can't remember watching a game that made me feel so damaged, so butchered up inside. I knew that the boys wanted to win for us, even if it killed them.

    Dear President Noy,
The only way to honor these Azkhals, and all the greats who took the football warpath in the past, is to let the PH team play in front of our countrymen. You should make it happen.

This is something that only the President of the Republic of the Philippines can do and should do.

(Note: I purposely chose to put the Gatorade Ad of the Azkhals to give due credit to the corporation that came to the aid of the booters.)
